We started the Plastic Project in 2016 to help create a cleaner and healthier environment in the Kimagandura community.
In many rural areas of Kenya, waste collection is limited or non-existent. As a result, plastic waste often ends up along roads, in fields and caught in bushes and cacti. It not only pollutes the landscape but also poses a serious threat to livestock, which can die after eating plastic.
Kenya took an important step in 2017 by introducing one of the world’s strictest bans on plastic bags. Our project supports this effort by raising awareness at the local level.
We visit primary schools, where we teach hundreds of children about the impact of plastic pollution. The children collect plastic waste from their villages and bring it to their schools for safe storage and disposal.
As a small reward for their efforts, each child receives a pen—something simple, but highly valued in many families.
The results are visible. Villages are cleaner, children become ambassadors for environmental awareness, and livestock are far less likely to be harmed by plastic waste.
Together, we are helping to create a cleaner environment for both people and animals.
